If you're a tad too late in preventing the constant aches restricting your motility, there are a number of ways to still thwart it from completely affecting your daily routine.
- Rest:
Disallow further strain by using the injured area as little as possible. Slowly stretch and loosen muscles after two or three days.
- Apply heat/cold:
Alleviate symptoms by applying an ice pack to the injured area for 15-20 minutes every hour. Do not directly use ice, however, as it can damage the skin. As for heat, do not apply in first week as it may worsen the pain by increasing the swelling.
- Elevation:
Use pillows to prop yourself to help elevate the injured area above your heart. This helps the swelling go down.
- Pain control
Analgesics such as acetaminophen can help to control swelling and pain. Painkillers like ibuprofen also work well.
- For CHRONIC PAIN:
If you experience numbness, high fever, chest pain, weakness, numbness, colour changes or persistent worsening pain for over a month, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.
