Dr Yeo Sow Nam is Director of The Pain Specialist, Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He is also Past President of Pain Association of Singapore and a Ministry of Health appointed advisory member for Pain Management, Chairman of Pain Section, Chapter of Anesthesiology, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is also the president for World Institute of Pain, South East Asia Chapter. He is appointed as an examiner for the esteemed fellowship of interventional pain practice, awarded by world institute of pain and is the only South East Asian to be given this honour.
Dr Yeo is trained in Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney and was the first in Singapore to obtain accreditation in the pain management specialty, awarded by the Australian and New Zealand Faculty of Pain Medicine. He is also the first Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (USA) in Singapore and a registered acupuncturist. He is also a Anaesthetist and had accreditation by both the local Specialist Accreditation Board and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
Dr Yeo has been described as evangelical in Pain Management and has given over 100 local and international lectures and has also published over 70 articles and abstracts. He is also the co-author for Ministry of Health's Clinical Practice Guidelines for Cancer Pain and also the author of the Ministry Of Health's Clinical Practice Guidelines for Use of Opioids for Non Cancer Pain. Recognising pain being multidisciplinary, he started an Advisory Board of many members of different disciplines for the Pain Association of Singapore. He was the founder and past director of Pain Management Centre, and Director of Acupuncture Services at Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Alvin Yeo is Consultant at The Pain Specialist, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. He is also a Visiting Consultant in Pain Medicine and immediate past Head of Chronic Pain at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and was formerly Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr Alvin Yeo trained and worked at top London Teaching Hospitals renowned as centres of clinical excellence. He graduated from Bart’s & The London Medical school, London, UK. He then completed his specialist Anaesthesia training (accredited specialist in Anaesthesiology in Singapore and UK) based at King’s College Hospital, London followed by Pain Medicine training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, a large well established pain centre of expertise. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists, UK, the first Pain specialist in Singapore with the UK fellowship. Prior to returning to Singapore medical practice, he was a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at St George’s Hospital, London, another major London teaching hospital.
Dr Alvin Yeo firmly believes and is passionate about relieving pain to avoid unnecessary suffering. He believes in providing comprehensive and holistic care in the management of chronic and cancer pain which can often be challenging requiring patience and multiple modalities of treatment.With his training and experience, he is well versed in using medication, interventional pain procedures and cognitive behavioural therapy. His expertise in pain management enhances the care he provides in the realm of Anaesthesia. Having extensive exposure to challenging cases in the large teaching hospitals in London, he is proficient and takes pride in providing high quality anaesthesia.
He has published in international medical journals and presented at local and international conferences. He is a Fellow of The Academy of Medicine, Singapore and a committee member of the section of pain medicine within the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is also a member of international organisations including the World Institute of Pain, International Association for the Study of Pain, British Pain Society and The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland.
